ANSCA

In 1922, The presidents of the major naturopathic schools held an historic meeting with the President of the American Naturopathic Association for the purpose of establishing a council for establishing and overseeing standards for education in the field.  The resulting commission was ANSCA.

Established Standards for Traditional Naturopathic Schools

NATUROPATHIC PROGRAMS APPROVED:

  • American School of Naturopathy
  • United States School of Naturopathy and Allied Sciences
  • University of Natural Medicine
  • Kingdom College of Natural Health

Conditional Approval:

  • John Patrick University School of Naturopathy



To be able to qualify as an accredited institution under the Associated Naturopathic Schools and Colleges of America, the entity must maintain the following standards: Incorporation as a non-profit entity. All schools and colleges must maintain an IRS non-profit status as a teaching institution, regardless of accreditation, as well as be licensed as a school or college by all the laws pertinent to their appropriate state of residence.

EDUCATIONAL STANDARDS

  1. All institutions must maintain the following standards of education at all times, stated on their websites and all educational materials. On site education shall be preferred, though online programs may also be accredited if they meet all of the following standards.
  2. “Didactic Education” must be stated for all programs related to the term “Naturopathy”.
  3. All courses related to Naturopathy must meet 4100 hours and be stated on websites and all educational material.
  4. In the event the school has part of their education online, they must state that the program is a "Residential Hybrid Program” on all website advertisements and educational materials. No school shall be accredited which offers a program of less than 4100 hours.
  5. The Institution must state on all advertisements and websites that their graduates are eligible to take the Naturopathic Doctors Licensing Exam (NDLEX), administered by the National Board of Naturopathic Examiners (NBNE) and eligible for licensure or registration.
  6. The term “Naturopathic Medicine” or “Naturopathic Medical Doctor” may not be used or taught in the same building or associated with the same institution which educates on the subject of “Naturopathy”.
